One of the celebrations was for Read Across America day. We had two parent volunteers come in to help run 3 different stations, each themed with one of Dr. Seuss's stories.
Me and Monica dressed up as the Cat and the Hat before we went to pick the kids up from recess. They got a kick out of that!
One station was from "Horton Hears a Who." The kids listened to the story then put together this ADORABLE Horton that one of our wonderful parents put together.
At my station, I read "Green Eggs and Ham." The kids got to decorate an egg shaped sugar cookie with different green goodies. We brought in ham for them to eat too, thinking they would eat the ham on the side....some decided to be adventurous and put the ham right on the cookie!
Another made this adorable Sneetches bingo to go along with the story "The Sneetches." She read the story to the kids then drew words/phrases form the story out of a bag and played bingo. It was another very fun activity for the kids.
The entire second grade voted on what their favorite Dr. Seuss story was. The teacher across the hall made this graph on a bulletin board in the hallway.
Our school did a whole "Read Across America" week. So we decided to do some different Dr. Seuss activities all week. One day we gave the kids Dr. Seuss soup (I got this idea from Pinterest :) ) It's basically just a bunch of different colorful snacks mixed into a "soup!"
Another idea (from Pinterest again of course) I had was to make Dr. Seuss snack cups! We did layers of strawberries and cool whip! Somehow they did not turn out as good as they looked on Pinterest... oh well, they were still delish!
Now who in WA wants to make me one of these awesome Dr. Seuss cut outs for my classroom???!!! :D

Another celebration we had was to welcome Spring!
We did a very similar celebration to the Dr. Seuss one, there were three different stations with a different activity at each.
At one station, the kids decorate foam eggs and put them up on an "Egg Tree" which is a German tradition.
At another station, they made little nests out of rice krispie treats and candy! (This one was my favorite!)
The last station the kids played Spring Bingo! The mom that made the Sneetches Bingo also made this one. I made sure I got a set of my own to take :)
Along with our spring celebration, the kids water colored these cute kites! This is our Spring bulletin board :)
So there you have it! I HAVE been working while over here! More posts to come soon :)
